Are you looking for BICU (burn ICU/ intensive care unit) nurse agency work in Northampton? Proximity Healthcare is looking for you, too! We’re a healthcare employment and recruitment agency specialising in nurse and HCA (healthcare assistant) hiring. Our agency believes in work-life balance, and so works tirelessly to negotiate your preferred schedule on your behalf– whether that’s Monday to Friday with dayshifts or weekends with nightshifts.
BICU agency nurses are in demand because they can fill staff gaps almost immediately and provide excellent quality of care. Through their specialised expertise and certification, they contribute toward bettering patient outcomes. As critical care nurses, they are strong-headed and are patient and empathetic. To be a burn unit nurse, you’ll have to be a qualified RN, preferably with trauma or ICU experience. It also doesn’t hurt to have burn care training, though it’s not a strict requirement. You’ll probably work in the emergency room or specialised intensive care unit for burn wounds, often called a burn center.
Skills you need to be a BICU nurse
Here are some of the skills you need to be a BICU nurse:
- Communication: for speaking, writing and communicating with other healthcare practitioners, like doctors or nurse practitioners. It’s also a good skill to have when providing emotional support or empathising.
- Critical thinking: to effectively analyse information, chart, and collect patient data. This also helps you to think on your feet and make good decisions in the event of a code or other emergency. Critical thinking goes hand in hand with well-rounded assessment skills.
- Conflict resolution: this is pertinent to the role– it’s important to facilitate effective care plan execution in the event of a disagreement between coworkers or to help patients communicate well with their families.
