Correctional/Prison Nurse Agency Jobs in Northampton

Are you scouting for correctional/prison nurse agency jobs in Northampton? Proximity Healthcare is hiring nurses like you for our wide network of hospitals and healthcare facilities, both public and private. We’re a healthcare and recruitment agency that specialises in RN (registered nurse) and HCA (healthcare assistant) hiring. We’re all about flexible schedules and great wages– our nurses come first.

These nurses specialize in providing care for inmates within a correctional facility and can see several individuals per day. They administer medication, communicate between patients, officers and other members of the correctional and medical teams, record and chart patient information,  make appropriate judgments about the most effective treatment plans, store medical equipment, like needles and scalpels, safely, and provide treatment referrals for patients who need specialised care. You’ll need RN certification, experience as a general or surgical nurse, and preferably correctional nursing certification.

Soft skills you’ll require include compassion, awareness of your surroundings, patience, and flexibility. Being a correctional nurse can be truly difficult– especially when dealing with malicious inmates and their various intricate health issues.

A Review of the Role

Here’s what one prison nurse said on Reddit: “I worked at a prison for about 9 months. It wasn’t terrible. I worked nights mostly and my shift would start prepping for the huge HS med pass. Depending on where I was working in the prison, an HS med pass could be anywhere from 30-100+ patients. In regular circumstances, the inmates are brought to the window for med pass and you are expected to quickly identify them, find them in the paper MAR, check vitals if required and administer meds. RN and officer watch the inmate take pills and both verify that no pills have been cheeked or hidden under the tongue. This has to go super fast because everything is on a really tight schedule. After HS meds, I would get charts ready for clinic the next day and then just be available for emergencies. Then, there was a diabetic med pass in the AM. That was about it. I did feel more secure and was threatened far less in the prison than in the hospital.
