Why PICU Nursing?
Pediatric ICU nurses are an integral part of the healthcare system. They are incredibly familiar with the workings of little humans’ bodies and how medication and treatment plans can fluctuate intensely as a result. PICU nurses are responsible for providing critical care to gravely ill children, from babies as young as one month old to teenagers nearing their adult years.
Pediatric ICU nurses should have nursing licensure (BSN RN, MN or associate’s), with the appropriate further certification in a deeper speciality of nursing they would like to specialise in (cardiac, neurological, cardiothoracic etc.), as well as experience in another area of critical care, like ICU or A&E/ER nursing.
Most importantly, PICU nurses should thrive under pressure, possess storehouses of empathy and compassion, and be able to properly relay information between allied healthcare professionals and family members.
