Registered Mental Healthcare Nurse (RMN)

A registered mental healthcare nurse (RMN) is a special kind of nurse who has studied and trained to help people with mental health problems. As an RMN, you work in places like hospitals, clinics, schools, and care facilities, and your job is to support and care for people who are going through mental health challenges. As an RMN, you also help the families and communities of these individuals to understand and cope with the situation.

To become a registered mental health nurse, you need to complete a nursing degree, get a license, and gain experience in mental health nursing. Some of the important qualities you should have include good observation skills, good physical fitness to handle job demands, and the ability to communicate effectively with others. You also need to be able to handle tough situations and make decisions quickly. If this sounds like you, be sure to contact us for more information about our on-boarding process.

Registered General Nurse (RGN)

A registered general nurse (RGN) is a nurse who takes care of patients in places like hospitals, nursing homes, or other healthcare facilities. As an RGN, your main job is to provide medical and nursing care to patients. This includes giving patients the medications and treatments prescribed by doctors, like injections and IVs. RGNs also assist doctors during treatments and examinations.

To become a RGN in the UK, you must first qualify and become registered as an adult, child, mental health, or learning disability nurse. This means you need to complete the necessary education and training for one of these nursing specialities. After that, if you want to work as an RGN, you may need to do some additional training or education or be open to doing so, depending on the specific requirements of the job you get appointed to. This ensures that you have the right skills and knowledge to provide the best care to patients. One of the main reasons why you should join Proximity Healthcare is that we provide a number of these trainings!

Healthcare Assistant (HCA)

Healthcare assistants in the UK are responsible for a range of duties, including helping people with washing, dressing and eating. HCAs are also responsible for organising and carrying out work around the house (such as cleaning, laundry and shopping), teaching life skills such as money management and communication, and working with other care professionals to create and implement care and development plans.

As an HCA, your duties will also include providing conversation and ad-hoc support when required, taking temperatures and dressing wounds. Other medical support provided by HCAs includes utilising equipment to move patients when necessary, helping tidy the patient’s home or room, taking the patient’s vital signs such as blood pressure and temperature, interviewing patients, recording data, assisting patients with medical exams and keeping the exam room equipment in good condition. So if you are looking for a more administrative healthcare role, contact us today to find out more about how you can join Proximity as an HCA.

Support Worker (SW)

A support worker (SW) is a professional who looks after the well-being of people in their daily lives. SWs help people living with different physical disabilities and mental health needs to live their lives more independently and support them to reach their potential by providing both physical and emotional support.

As an SW in the UK, your duties may include helping patients with personal care and medical needs, assisting with household duties like laundry and cleaning, helping to cook, supporting patients in their interests and hobbies, as well as providing emotional support for a patient and their families. As an SW, you will also be required to support and help with patients’ healthcare needs, including routine checks or administrating medication, encouraging and supporting the development of personal skills through hobbies and interests, and working with patients’ professional care workers to establish and implement treatment plans. Essentially, being an SW requires someone with a more personal touch. If this sounds like you, be sure to contact us to find out more about our on-boarding process.

Mental Health Healthcare Assistance (MH HCA)

A mental health healthcare assistant (MH HCA) is a professional who assists mental health patients with therapeutic and basic care. As an MH HCA, your duties include taking vital measurements and supporting patients with daily activities such as eating and taking medications.

To be a MH HCA, you’ll need to be resilient, caring and kind, cheerful and friendly, willing to do personal care tasks (washing, toileting, etc.) in some areas, able to follow instructions and procedures, and able to work in a team but use your own initiative.

Care Worker (CW)

A care worker is a professional who helps vulnerable people manage their daily activities and live as independently as possible. As a CW, your primary duties include assisting patients with grooming and personal hygiene, preparing meals and providing emotional support.

Your duties and responsibilities as a CW also include assisting patients with personal care such as bathing, grooming, and getting dressed, handling household chores like cleaning, laundry, and shopping. You will also be responsible for taking care of the nutritional needs of the patients, such as preparing meals and serving them at the appropriate time, as well as administering oral and topical medications under the supervision of a medical professional.

Similar to support workers, being a CW requires a personal touch. This is because the role requires you to provide company and emotional support, involvement with writing residents’ care plans, providing information to family members regarding the care plan, ensuring that the resident’s needs and wishes are met and working with other health and social care professionals to provide holistic care.
